my 7 DAYS ACTIVE: Jacqueline Zelwis

At 7 DAYS Active, we believe an active life is about more than movement — it’s a mindset. Rooted in our core values of BODYMIND, and SOUL, we’re launching “My 7 DAYS Active” — a new monthly series on our social platforms.

We invite our community to share how they stay active throughout the week — from workouts to moments of mindfulness. It’s all about living with intention, balance, and energy, every day.

This month we talk to Jacqueline Zelwis, who is a surfing and reformer pilates enthusiast (among many other things), about keeping up an active lifestyle.

What is your go-to workout/activity?

Surfing and reformer pilates has been my go-to for the past two years.

What does your active week look like?

When I am in Bali, I try to go surfing every morning. If there is no surf, I start the day with a reformer pilates class. Some days I even do both when I still have energy after the morning surf.

In the evenings, I love to go for a walk after dinner to digest and move the body again before going to bed.

How do you stay motivated to keep moving every day?

Luckily, I do not really struggle with finding motivation. Of course, I do have some days on which I don’t feel like doing anything at all. But I always remind myself of how I feel after moving my body, which helps.

Also, I do think you just need to find an activity that is fun! With surfing, I found something I enjoy so much, I hate every day I don’t get to be in the water. It does not feel like a workout at all.

What role does being active play in your overall well-being?

I am a very active person generally, so I do need to move my body everyday to feel well. It does not always have to be a full on workout, just doing my 10K+ steps a day does the job as well. Moving my body makes me feel more balanced, healthy and strong which also results in feeling better mentally.

Do you prefer to work out alone or together with others—and why?

Definitely together. I grew up doing team sports, so maybe that’s just something I am used to. But I also think, that working out/ moving together is just way more fun. Everything is more fun when shared plus you can always keep each other accountable.

What is your favorite place to be active (gym, outdoors, studio, home)?

Either outdoors or a studio. But if I had to pick one, it would be outdoors. There is nothing like being outside, preferably in nature.

How do you balance being active with rest and recovery during the week?

That’s the tricky part. I love to push myself and taking time to rest and recovery is something I have to force myself to. But the older I get, the more reasonable I get. I do know how important it is to rest and give the body time to recover, so whenever surf conditions don’t look too good or there is no reformer pilates class I would enjoy, I take it as a sign to take the day off and only go for long walks.

I also started to try to include sauna and ice bathing sessions into my week and with spending so much time in Bali, I also try to spoil myself to a massage once a month.
